Frequently Asked Questions: Awareness
Curriculum
Should I order the basic curriculum or the
deluxe?
The main difference between basic and deluxe is
“Chakra Bear” AKA Rainbow Bear. He is an adorable stuffed bear, 100%
cotton inside and out. I love incorporating him into the lessons and
so do the children.
Can this curriculum be taught in a public school
setting?
Yes, I recommend presenting is as strictly,
relaxation, stress-management. In order to be accepted by all
parents and teachers, do not use the word meditation. Do not
incorporate any aspects of spirituality. The curriculum is
non-denominational. Remember all 4 techniques presented in this
curriculum are mainstream techniques used to manage anxiety and
stress.
How will public schools or conservative parents
take to Chakra Bear?
Chakra Bear should be called “Rainbow Bear” for
public school and conservative parents. The colors sewn on Rainbow
Bear are there to remind children to visualize filling their body
with color. He supports the stories found on Indigo Dreams: A Boy
and a Turtle and Indigo Ocean Dreams: Bubble Riding.
Visualizing with colors is a traditionally used, stress-management
technique recommended by mainstream doctors throughout the world.
What age group is most appropriate?
Although the curriculum was written for children
at the elementary school level; it can be used with slightly younger
or older. You will need to be creative and make adjustments to the
age group you are working with.
Do you accept purchase orders?
Yes we accept PO’s from schools. Email
Rick@LiteBooks.net or call
(800) 841-4204 for requirements.
Should each class I teach get 4 lessons?
It would be ideal if each class could get all four
lessons, but realize that even one class can change a child’s life.
Just one technique can help a child manage anxiety, stress and
anger.
Do you suggest a week apart for each lesson?
A week between lessons is nice in that it gives
the children a week to practice applying their newly learned
relaxation skill to their lives. Keep in mind that any opportunity
to teach a child is an opportunity you do not want to miss.
How long might each lesson last?
There are many variables that will affect the
length of each lesson.
• How many children in your group?
• What are their ages?
• How many questions the children ask?
• How long will you do the movement activity for?
• How much information will you offer during the lesson time?
I would estimate 45 minutes and realize that you can alter the
length to fit your needs. The curriculum is designed to be user
friendly and flexible. If you have limited time; you can break the
lessons in half If you have a large group you can break a lesson
down into centers and have smaller groups rotate around.
How many lessons are in the curriculum?
There are 4 distinct lessons that are designed to
be “unlimited”. Suggestions are given for variations on each lesson
so that you can use them over and over again. The curriculum can be
used with the new “Indigo Ocean Dreams” CD which has 4 additional
stories presenting variations on relaxation techniques. You can also
incorporate your favorite stories or relaxation CDs.
Do I need teaching experience to use the
curriculum?
No, each lesson is written so that anyone with a
desire to teach can make an impact. Each moment of the lesson is
addressed from the moment you greet the children until the moment
they leave.
I am looking to incorporate the curriculum into our home setting. Would this be a good fit
for only teaching only 1 or 2 children?
Yes, the only difference with having a small group is that the movement activity will be just
two or three of you. It will still be fun and you can have more turns than if you were in a larger group. You can
also invite dolls or stuffed animals to the group for extra creative play.
Will the art projects require me to purchase
additional materials?
You will need to purchase crayons. Implementing
more complicated art projects will require a few other items. The
curriculum is designed to be turn key. With crayons in hand and
copies of the art handout you will be able start immediately!
Will there be an Awareness Curriculum II in the
